Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and so I thought I'd post some information on how we can raise awareness through Facebook and Twitter etc.

Estee Lauder are shining a Pink light on Monuments around the World to help raise awareness. Elizabeth Hurley launched the campaign by illuminating Selfridges in London on 29th September 2011. You can read about it here.

If you would like to join the campaign on Facebook click here, then you can write and share your Message of Hope with others here. You must have a facebook account and be logged in to Like the page and write a message, which is then published on a map and you can read other messages by selecting the location.

Click here to see the locations around the world where you can see the pink lights.

I encourage everyone to check their breasts regularly for lumps or any unusual tenderness or soreness and if you find something that seems unusual, please make an appointment to see your GP/Dr because early detection means it can be dealt with, removed before its likely to spread etc. it may not even turn out to be breast cancer, but it's better to act sooner rather than later.

Please remind friends and family members about self-checking and not just ladies, men can get breast cancer too and they should be self-checking their testes regularly too. I know a lot of men don't like to talk about personal things but its up to us wives, girlfriends, sisters, friends and mother's to remind men to look out for these things and if they notice any changes they should make an appointment to see a GP/Dr too.

If your not sure how to self-check here's 5 Steps to self-examination, but next time your at your GP/Dr why not ask them more about it and how often you should be checking and how to do it properly.

I hope one day we'll find a Cure for cancer but until then we all need to self-check and report anything to our medical professionals.
