I'd been using a high end skincare range for a few years so I decided to see what the Aveeno buzz was about and I contacted Johnson and Johnson in New Zealand and asked if they could send information about Aveeno ranges and if it was possible for a couple of samples.
I thought trying some of these new products and letting you know my thoughts on them might be helpful. I haven't noticed any chatter among the UK, Australian or any other NZ bloggers.
Johnson and Johnson's PR kindly sent me the Aveeno Smart Essentials range to try.
As soon as I opened the box I was impressed with the packaging. I like nice packaging and I know that it should be the quality of the products in question, but pretty packaging is the first thing I notice, then the smell (after opening), the handiness of the product eg does it have a dispenser and then the product itself.
Overall, (I think) the scents are pretty much the same for each product and I wouldn't like the scents to smell differently so I can see how they marry with each other. Like I said I was very pleased with the floral packaging and the the scent but now let's talk about each product in detail.
The first product I chose from the box was the Daily Detoxifying Scrub (141g). I'm not sure why but I don't think my face needs a daily detoxifying scrub but I used the product after the facial wash. I think maybe I should've used the Scrub first, then the wash but I now use the scrub 2-3 times a week and it didn't cause any irritation and I notice how clean my skin feels without being tight and dehydrated. I have an oily t-zone and very rarely do I have any dry facial skin these days because I think my skin feels less oily, maybe your skin adapts to the skincare I have no reasonable explanation for it but my t-zone is less oily and I've had less breakouts too. It's a gentle scrub is non-abrasive and it feels like its cleaning my pores without tearing my skin.
The Pore Purifying Facial Wash (177ml). A nice floral design on the packaging and it comes with a pump to dispense the product, no worrying about pouring too much and then fiddling with the cap to close the bottle. It is not too runny, I didn't spill any or press down too hard on the pump and get too much product out. It smells nice and it felt nice on my skin, it does lather but not overly and I felt my skin was clean without drying it out too.
Next is the Daily Nourishing Moisturiser (75ml). This product has another pump dispenser, smaller than the facial wash pump but I find this also dispenses the right amount of product. This product contains SPF30, it's oil-free, hypoallergenic and noncomedogenic. It feels cooling and soaks in nicely. I like how soft my skin feels after applying this product and it doesn't leave a greasy feeling to your skin.
When I started using this skincare range I was only using it at night, but now I've stopped using my old skincare products (because they are empty) so now I go through this skincare routine in the morning and before bed at night (apart from using the daily scrub everyday) because I use 2-3 times a week and if anything changes then I'll use it more often.
Nightime Moisturise Infusion (48g). I feel the night time moisturiser is more hydrating than the day moisturiser but I'm probably imaging it. My skin feel so soft to the touch, very smooth and I wake up and look at my skin and think it really has made a difference since I started using Aveeno day and night.
and finally the Anti-Fatigue Eye Treatment (8ml). This is a soothing eye treatment with a cooling roller ball applicator, it's a handy size. This is my fave of all the products. I have baggy under eyes that aren't necessarily dark, but its the first area on my face you can tell when I'm tired so I really like eye creams that help reduce puffiness and moisturise and help reduce fine lines and wrinkles. This isn't a miracle roll-on but it does a very good job and I've noticed improvement in the under eye areas.
I started using Aveeno in January. I wanted to use it for 3 months before writing a review about it because I felt it important to test it for an appropriate amount of time and this is the longest amount of testing time I've ever done for any product!
I am impressed with this Aveeno range and I wouldn't hesitate in repurchasing it yet, it's affordable, you can buy it fairly easily here in New Zealand and also in the USA, Australia and the UK so if you get the chance I recommend you give it a try.
Please bear in mind this is my experience with Aveeno and products that work for me may not work for you due to your skin type and other factors - when trying new skincare, please make sure you know if you are allergic to any of the ingredients contained in the product. I would recommend research first before buying products and then once you do buy them do the patch tests, this is very important.
If you've tried Aveeno, please let me know which products and what you like about them.
I'm happy with Smart Essentials but I'm thinking of trying the Soy and/or maybe the Oat range next.
These products were sent to me for the purpose of testing and writing an honest review and all of my thoughts and experiences of these products are 100% honest. I haven't been paid, nor Sponsored by Johnson and Johnson or their PR company to write a positive review. I'm also not an employee of their PR company, nor the Company itself and haven't had any prior dealings with these companies. Thanks for reading my review. I hope you have found it helpful.
